“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life”
...she continued by saying that her life experience and ethnicity “will have an effect on the development of the law and on judging.”
And here I thought that the Constitution and our laws have an effect on judging. Who knew?
ReplyDeleteApparently your life experience and your race can effect how you judge someone... is that the definition of racism?
Haven't countless bigots used this excuse in the past? That their life experience determined how they judged someone... apparently its ok to judge people differently if you are a women and hispanic. But it not ok if you are a male and white.
I propose that our judges judge based on facts, the law, the Constitution... not their personal whims.
This flies in the face of her predecessors who maintained that: "wise old man and a wise old woman would reach the same conclusion when deciding cases." ... but not Sotomayor.
Glad Obama feels like this "fresh" perspective is qualified for the highest court in the land.
I'm glad to know that opinion and bias is an acceptable way to judge people.
We wouldn't want someone judging based on the law. I think it's better to judge based on the feelings our ethnicity gives us.
ReplyDeleteIt's OK to be racist, as long as you're not white.
The supreme court is now a social experiment, with a hard core communist in charge of stacking the decks.
ReplyDeleteCommunist News Network commentary on it: http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/05/28/ifill.sotomayor/index.htmlSotomeyer is not racist, but calling her racist is racist. Only white people can be racist apparently.
