NEWSWEEK: Why Barack Obama represents American Catholics better than the pope does...

NEWSWEEK: Why Barack Obama represents American Catholics better than the pope does...

Really?!? This piece of propaganda is the worst type of pseudo-journalism I've read in a while.

When Obama meets the pope tomorrow, they'll politely disagree about reproductive freedoms and homosexuality, but Catholics back home won't care, because they know Obama's on their side. In fact, Obama's agenda is closer to their views than even the pope's.

Chairman Obama is on YOUR side fighting for you! The leader is better than the pope, neh he IS the Pope!

Honestly this article is comparing Obama to the Pope. I guess since we've all heard him compared to Jesus so much that we might as well compare him to the Pope. That has got to be insulting to Catholics. Some journalist speaking on behalf of all American Catholics making the assumption that the are better represented by Obama than the leader of their faith who speaks to God. Wow.

This whole article is based on the premise that because the Catholic church doesnt support homosexuality and is pro-life that Obama somehow better represents Catholics because Catholics in America are marginally pro-life and pro-gay.

This article is making grand assumptions based on a few percentage points on 2 issues.

Grandstanding? Sensationalism? Yellow journalism? Fox News? .... nope Newsweek! In the tank for Obama, duh.

Finally what does an article like this hope to achieve? Geee you know I was loyal to the Pope, but now I feel ike Obama better represents me, I'm going to worship Obama! O-ba-ma, Oh-ba-ma!!

And people wonder why opponents of Barack say there is a cult of personality or a Messiah complex around him.

Absolutely Disgusting Glorification of Terrorism

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,461647,00.html

The jarring toy has outraged the British Muslim organization known as the Ramadhan Foundation, which called the figurine "absolutely disgusting," according to Sky News.

The foundation's chief executive, Mohammed Shafiq, complained that the toy is "glorifying terrorism."

"I don't think there's any difference between someone that shouts hatred through a megaphone and someone that creates a doll that glorifies terrorists," he told Sky.

I don't see what the British Ramadhan Foundation has to do with a toy produced in Seattle.

I think this toy kicks ass. Suck my balls Mohammed Shariq!

War on Ramahanukwanzmas!

Jimmy and I just had a quality chat offline and decided to wage the "War on Ramahanukwanzmas"
Feel free to join.

Embracing Ramadan

More Districts Closing on Muslim Holidays

This is one example of which I can find dozens. The point being: Our country was founded on Freedom of Religion, not from Religion.

For the love of God/Allah/Obama/Buddah can we please celebrate all religions and not be offended by any of them?

In my opinion the correct solution is definitely not to erase all relligious expression from the public forum. (and please don't throw separation of church and state out there... do some research first, then post)

Can't we all just get along?

Charter for religious harmony

Good timing on this article after the last religion post.

"Charter for Compassion invites people from "all faiths, nationalities, languages and backgrounds" to help draft statements of principles and actions that should be taken."

The question is: Are atheists happy or angered or indifferent?

The great Christmas debate

I don't want to start the annual "put Christ back in Christmas" debate. Separation of Church and State blah blah blah. I get it.

But does this campaign really start to go too far the other way? Is asking "Why believe in a god?" any different than saying "Believe in god!"

Edwords said the purpose isn't to argue that God doesn't exist or change minds about a deity, although "we are trying to plant a seed of rational thought and critical thinking and questioning in people's minds."

Ok, I don't really have a problem with that and I think that should apply across the board. And that is why I have zero problems with the word "Christmas", manger scenes, Jesus, wisemen, frankincense, and myrrh.

Why can 'Christmas' be offensive, but anti-Christmas isn't? I thought the compromise was that we just leave religion out of the public forum. Shouldn't anti-religion also be kept out then?

If we can ask "Why believe in a god?" I damn well hope we are all comfortable enough in our beliefs to hear the answer.
