Well that's one way to read the polls...

Fifty-four percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday approve of how Obama is handling his duties as president, with 45 percent saying they disapprove."Obama's approval rating of 54 percent is nearly identical to the 53 percent of the vote he won a year ago," notes CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "And in nearly every demographic category, the percent that approve of Obama today is within two to three points of the percent who voted for him in 2008.

Gee CNN, that is an awfully generous way of looking at it.

Another way to look at it is like this:

CNN is comparing apples to oranges. Just because you didn't vote for him does not mean you don't support him. As you can see in the Rasmussen poll 65% of likely voters approved of Obama when he was elected.

The CNN poll shows that only 54% of ALL PEOPLE current approve.

The difference is two-fold:
  1. Likely-voters (Rassmussen) vs. all people (CNN)
  2. Job Approval vs. 2008 election
CNN is comparing apples to oranges to grapes to try and spin Obama's fall from grace.
