Ammunition Bill Signed into Law

SACRAMENTO, CA - Before the midnight deadline, Gov. Schwarzenegger acted on 685 bills that were on his desk. He signed 456 and vetoed 229.

One of the bills that he signed was Assembly Bill 962. It requires handgun ammunition to be kept behind the counter where customers cannot access it without assistance. It also requires gun shop owners to thumbprint people who buy handgun ammunition, as well as record their identification and provide that information to police.

Schwarzenegger released a statement explaining why he signed the bill.

"To the Members of the California State Assembly: I am signing Assembly Bill 962.

This measure would require vendors of handgun ammunition to keep a log of information on handgun ammunition sales, store ammunition in a safe and secure manner, and require the face to-
face transfer of ammunition sales.


Although I have previously vetoed legislation similar to this measure, local governments have demonstrated that requiring ammunition vendors to keep records on ammunition sales improves public safety. These records have allowed law enforcement to arrest and prosecute persons who have no business possessing firearms and ammunition: gang members, violent parolees, second and third strikers, and even people previously serving time in state prison for murder.

Utilized properly, this type of information is invaluable for keeping communities safe and preventing dangerous felons from committing crimes with firearms.

Moreover, this type of record keeping is no more intrusive for law abiding citizens than similar laws governing pawnshops or the sale of cold medicine. Unfortunately, even the most successful
local program is flawed; without a statewide law, felons can easily skirt the record keeping requirements of one city by visiting another. Assembly Bill 962 will fix this problem by
mandating that all ammunition vendors in the state keep records on ammunition sales.


As Governor, I have sought the appropriate balance between public safety and the right to keep and bear arms. I have signed important public safety measures to regulate the sale and transfer of .50 caliber rifles, instituted the California Firearms License Check program, and promoted the use of microstamping technology in handguns. I have also vetoed many pieces of legislation that sought to place unreasonable restrictions and burdens on firearms dealers and ammunition vendors.

Assembly Bill 962 reasonably regulates access to ammunition and improves public safety without placing undue burdens on consumers. For these reasons, I am pleased to sign this bill."

MSNBC’s Ron Allen is reporting that cameras filmed a protester with a handgun strapped to his leg outside President Barack Obama’s town hall meeting in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The man was seen carrying a sign saying “It’s time to water the tree of liberty.”

The man’s “tree of liberty” sign is a reference to Thomas Jefferson, who said “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

Allen says the Portsmouth police chief told him the man’s gun is legal, because he is on private property — he is on the grounds of a nearby church. Police say his gun is registered and he can keep it on him as long as it is not concealed.

“The police are obviously keeping a close eye on this man …and I suspect that he won’t be here when the president arrives in a few hours’ time,” Allen told viewers.

Maybe they should just stay out of New Hampshire if they're so upset about a state that doesn't oppress it's citizens like NY, CA or DC.

Gun Grabbers like Obama have spoken out against the DC vs Heller case which determined that the DC ban on handguns was illegal.

Obama (who is against the Heller ruling) states, "As a general principle, I believe that the Constitution confers an individual right to bear arms. But just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can’t constrain the exercise of that right, in the same way that we have a right to private property but local governments can establish zoning ordinances that determine how you can use it."

Chicago still has an unconstitutional handgun ban in effect. "Some municipalities, most notably Chicago, require that all firearms be registered with the local police department.[72] Chicago does not allow the registration of handguns, which has the effect of outlawing their possession, unless they were grandfathered in by being registered before April 16, 1982.[73][74] The Chicago suburb of Oak Park also has banned handguns,[75] and Highland Park bars handgun possession unless the resident has obtained a permit from the police."

Gun control laws only affect the law abiding citizens. So why would strict gun control laws (to put it in Obama's words) "make sure that criminals don’t have guns in their hands."

Sotomayor supports the second amendment?

You can't say that you support the second amendment, when you believe that the states can override our second amendment rights.

There are worse gun rights judges out there, but she's definitely not good. I haven't heard about any NRA rating for her yet. We'll have to see what they say.

Liberals reacting to Obama's signing of the CC in National Parks bill

You may have heard recently that Obama is going to sign the bill to re-allow concealed carry permit holders to carry in national parks. This was something signed by Bush, but reversed when Obama took office.

There are a crap load of comments on CNN from the hippies. I found them pretty funny.

What the hell is the matter with people’s heads that this is even at issue? Why would a concealed weapon be needed anywhere, much less in a park? Where my kids may be hiking? Common sense… not so common anymore, is it?

Why, is al Qaeda recruiting grizzly bears? Just what the park rangers need – people with concealed guns running around our parks.

Absolutely not. If these people who carry guns are so afraid to go into our national parks without firearms then they should just stay at home. Our parks are supposed to be places of refuge for both humans and animals. And what will be the NRA’s excuse when the first person is killed in a national park by a stray bullet fired by some drunk idiot with a firearm? That’s the cost of maintaining our freedom? Give me a break.

No. Our animals are on the endangered list now. Just wait till some Johnny shoot-first, ask-questions-later arrives in the woods armed to the hilt and comes across a bear. The bear will be dead. Only the park ranger should be armed.

It just shows the kind of wimps who belong to the NRA–do they need a concealed weapon to protect them from ground squirrels and chipmunks? I just hope one of those freaks doesn’t open up on unsuspecting tourists in a national park. Shame on the dems for allowing it to be attached to legitimate credit card legislation.

Whats next…elementary schools and churches? Of course there shouldn’t be! Why? Whats the mortal danger thats present? Police and Military officers take extensive training to learn how to use weapons responsibly, and even they cannot get it right sometimes. How do we expect every Tom, Dick and Jane on the street to be able to use one?

I understand that the Second Amendment is fairly well-settled, but society has the right to expect gun owners to be free of a criminal record, sane, and reasonably trained in the use of their purchases. I struggled with how to reply to this nonsense…Unless you are an undercover law enforcement officer…No One should be permitted to carry a concealed weapon-anywhere. As for the National Parks… PEOPLE should not be allowed in-period…never mind if they are carrying a weapon or not….First there was the snowmobile debate, then off road 4 wheelers, now guns…We should just build a fence around the parks and let the wildlife be free from all the lunacy.

How on earth is this a good idea? The people who would want to bring concealed weapons to National Parks are the last people you would want in National Parks in the first place. We don’t need to turn these places into “Survivalist Camps.”

Someone who wants to commit a crime in a national park, does not care if it is legal to conceal their gun in that park.

There have been rapes/murders in national parks in the past. There's nothing wrong with carrying a gun which you will probably never use, just in case.

The SKS is not an "assault rifle" even by the Clinton ban standards.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tossed cold water on the prospect of reinstating the assault weapons ban, highlighting Democrats’ reluctance to take on gun issues.

Attorney General Eric Holder raised the prospect Wednesday that the administration would push to bring back the ban. But Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated on Thursday that he never talked to her. The Speaker gave a flat “no” when asked if she had talked to administration officials about the ban.

“On that score, I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “I think it's clear the Bush administration didn’t do that.”

Outside of the dig at the recent Republican president, that phrase is the stock line of those who don’t want to pass new gun control laws, such as the National Rifle Association.

The White House declined to comment on Holder's remarks, referring reporters to the Department of Justice. The DoJ did not respond to The Hill's request for comment.

Pelosi has consistently voted against gun rights, and the NRA grades her with a F on gun control (the lowest possible rating).

Maybe even the liberal gun grabbers are starting to realize that the Clinton ban did nothing to prevent crime.

Obama can't bring the ban back without the support of congress.

This is good news that gives us more time to stock up on assault weapons for the revolution!

Thune Introduces Bill to Allow Individuals to Carry Concealed Weapons Across State Lines

February 4th, 2009 - Washington, D.C. - Senator John Thune yesterday introduced the Respecting States' Rights and Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (S.371), a bill that would allow individuals to carry lawfully concealed firearms across state lines, while at the same time respecting the laws of the host state.

"South Dakota is a state with responsible laws allowing citizens to protect themselves with concealed weapons," said Thune. "Law-abiding South Dakotans should be able to exercise the right to bear arms in states with similar regulations on concealed firearms."

According to economist and leading firearms researcher John Lott, Jr., states with concealed carry laws enjoy significantly lower violent crime rates. His data shows that for every year a state has a concealed carry law, the murder rate declines by three percent, rape by two percent, and robberies by over two percent.

Currently, some states with concealed carry laws grant reciprocity to permit-holders from other select states. Senator Thune's bill strikes the appropriate balance between individual and states' rights by allowing an individual to carry a concealed firearm across state lines if they either have a valid permit or if, under their state of residence, they are entitled to do so.

Traveling individuals must follow the laws of the host state, including laws concerning specific types of locations in which firearms may or may not be carried.

Comrade Hussein is against concealed carry, especially in cities (which are the only places where you need to carry in the first place). It's completely retarded because he always cites violent crime statistics even though none of the criminals have permits. They carry illegally and will continue carrying illegally even if the messiah succeeds in banning the permits.

We need to ban economic downturns too. If we had just thought of that before the recession, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Since the federal assault weapon law expired in 2004, police in major cities report a resurgence of assault weapon use in crime, with hundreds of people killed on our streets with these weapons of war since late 2004.

Those daily shootings you hear about on the news are almost always done with what the Brady Bunch considers safe guns: 22, 9mm, etc. Wouldn't it make more sense to go after those guns than the "weapons of war" that are hardly ever used in crimes? Keep in mind that even if they say "automatic weapon" on the news, they're just talking about a semi-automatic handgun.

Que? .50 BMG has been used in every American war since WWI, and I have never heard of someone shooting down a plane with one. It would be nearly impossible to hit a moving plane with one, and even if you could hit the plane, it would just put a little hole in it.

Crimes are committed with small caliber handguns that are stolen and sold on the street for less than $100. THOSE are the guns we need to go after. Not $8,000 .50 caliber rifles. I have never ever heard of a .50 cal being used in a crime.

I chose the picture above to illustrate how stupid assault weapon bans are. That rifle is often chambered for M16 or AK47 calibers, it can fire with just as much velocity and just as rapidly as those military style rifles, and it can hold 30 rounds just like those "weapons of war". However since the assault bans are primarily based on looks, it's not in any danger of being banned.

David Spade helps Phoenix police buy rifles

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Phoenix Police Department has gotten some high-powered goodies courtesy of actor David Spade.

The one-time Phoenix resident donated $100,000 so that the department can buy approximately 50 AR-15 rifles.

Spade said he wanted to make the donation after seeing a TV news report about Phoenix officers having to buy their own rifles. Spade grew up in the Phoenix area and graduated from Arizona State University.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Alan Hill says the rifles will be given to patrol officers and that the agency was grateful for the gifts.

"These guys need to be able to do their jobs and I am just happy I could help," Spade said in a statement released by his publicist.

Society needs crime control, not gun control. Munday writes that "violent crime in America has plummeted" in the past two decades after the majority of states enacted "right to carry" legislation and issued permits to carry concealed weapons to citizens of good repute. I think there were many reasons for the decline, but "right to carry" certainly wasn't detrimental to it.

There are Second Amendment absolutists in America, and libertarians elsewhere, who regard a person's birthright to own/carry a firearm beyond the state's power to regulate. I'm not one of them. I think it's reasonable for communities to set thresholds of age, proficiency, legal status, etc., for the possession of lethal weapons, just as they set standards for the operation of motor vehicles, airplanes and ham radios. But it seems to me that, within common sense perimeters, you'd want to enhance, not diminish, the defensive capacity of the good guys, and increase rather than decrease the number of auxiliary crime-fighters who are available to be deputized when the bad guys start climbing over the fence.

There's no such thing as a "gun free" zone!

The mayor of Seattle wants to ban concealed carry in almost all public places, because a mental patient with a concealed carry permit shot a few people last spring. They say that you will still be able to carry in parking garages and on streets, but how the hell can you carry when you won't be able to legally enter any of the buildings? Under current laws, people with Washington state concealed carry permits can carry in parks and at the Seattle Center. The proposal would take that right away. [1]

Almost EVERY study shows that crime goes down when you allow concealed carry. That's why despite places like Seattle, the general trend recently has been in favor of concealed carry. For example, this year the supreme court overturned the unconstitutional handgun ban in D.C. and Atlanta residents gained the right to lawfully concealed carry on the MARTA. Florida was one of the first states to allow it and more and more states have followed suit after seeing the positive results.

Is the real problem the gun itself? Or is it the man holding the gun?

The only people who obey gun free zones are law abiding citizens who wouldn't be committing crimes in the first place.

Criminological and sociological analysis provides important, even crucial, information as to the role of firearms in violence and the utility and viability of potential gun control strategies. Virtually all of this information is ignored or affirmatively suppressed in the health advocacy literature. That literature also shows consistent patterns of making misleading international comparisons, mistaking the differences between handguns and long guns, and exaggerating the number of children injured or killed, thereby building up the emotional content. Other distortions include presenting gun ownership in such a manner as to ignore or minimize the benefits, and measuring defensive benefits purely in terms of attackers killed, rather than considering attacks deterred or attackers repelled. To the contrary, the criminological and sociological research literature demonstrates the existence of high risk groups for firearms misuse, and of the "career" criminals who commit many of the serious crimes in our society. Yet the anti-gun health advocacy literature consistently overlooks these data and attributes equal propensity to commit violent crime to all people. [2]

Evidence of the Obama team's distaste for firearm owners may be found as Question 59 of a 63 item questionnaire administered by Obama staffers to all potential applicants for positions in the Obama White House. The question asks for sensitive information about firearms owned by the applicant and his/her family.

The questionnaire poses a number of questions asking the applicant to reveal any unethical activities, or embarrassing Internet chats, then wraps up by asking if anyone in the applicant's family owns a firearm. Obviously, Obama feels that owning a firearm is akin to talking dirty in Internet chat rooms. But that should come as no surprise as, while an Illinois State Senator, Obama voted for SB1195 - a provision of which called for gun owners to be registered in the same manner as sex offenders."

Semi-Auto Ban - The United States of California?

This is my first post from the now blue state of Nevada. The uneducated, non-English speaking, lurching man-children, suped up Civic driving, service job sheep, and Californians, have moved into Las Vegas in large enough numbers to turn the state blue. It is a sad day for the state and nation. They had paperwork at the polls in Spanish. I don't understand why, since you need to be an American citizen to vote. Apparently dropping an anchor baby also gives you instant suffrage.

But hey, voting for Obama is the hip thing to do. You need to listen to Ashton Kutcher and P Diddy. Get in line with the other sheep! I heard with the purchase of every flat brim hip-hop checkered Yankees cap at Lids you get a free Obama bumper sticker. And don't forget how Kanye said that voting for McCain is racist. You don't want to be racist.

I'm ranting. This post isn't about the election. This post is about the bill of rights, and the 2nd amendment in particular. Obama is the most anti-gun president in the history of the US.

Obama: "My first priority will be to reinstate the assault weapons ban as soon as I take office. Within 90 days, we will go back after kitchen table dealers, and work to end the gun show and internet sales loopholes. In the first year, I intend to work with Congress on a national no carry law, 1 gun a month purchase limits, and bans on all semi-automatic guns." [1]

Banning semi-autos means banning pretty much every gun, except for bolt action rifles and pump shotguns. But get this, they also want to ban hunting calibers like .223, 7.62, 30-06, .308. Meaning, even bolt action rifles will essentially be banned too. The idea is to make it so difficult to sell guns in the US, that all of the evil firearm manufacturers like Winchester and Remington go out of business.

There is a correlation between gun control and crime. Crime goes DOWN when you arm the law abiding citizens. Clinton's ban did nothing to prevent crime [2], but Obama wants to bring it back with no sunset clause. And this assault ban is just the beginning. If a semi-auto ban passes, it will be the death of the second amendment. Then your life and liberty will be solely in the hands of the government.

The liberals know that gun control doesn't work, but they go after our guns because it makes the sheep feel safe. It makes the sheep happy. But don't be fooled.
